A Take on SESTA/FOSTA From An Attorney Specializing In The Sex Worker Industry

I listened to this broadcast yesterday. It was quite interesting to hear his take on the law and its ramifications. Click on the below link. Sit back, relax and enjoy. Also, have a drink. It's on me, figuratively speaking of course.  8)

Thank you for starting this discussion, Anthony.  I'm frankly amazed that this law has such broad bi-partisan support when it is so broad, vague and overreaching.  I would be heartbroken to see CdM become vulnerable to criminal liability for promoting safe and consensual adult interactions.  This forum was a game-changer for me, and is the reason I had such a safe and positive companion experience.

And of course, we and other sex workers can also be held liable for our respective ads, websites and other online content.

I've read the articles you posted, and it does seem that one small piece of good news is that the law doesn't apply to individual sex workers placing their own ads.  The Daily Beast article states: "Sex workers don't have to worry about being punished for posting their own ads, but they could run afoul of the law if working in pairs or helping a colleague place an ad."

Still, clients and companions need places like CdM so that we can share information that helps keep all of us safe.  :(

It had very broad support among Democrats and Republicans. Even among those that patronize escorts. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

I'm sure that most of us would feel the same way.

I saw that reference also but after reading other articles and listening to the sex industry attorney on The Sexy Escort Guide Podcast I'm not sure that that's entirely accurate.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Here's a petition some of you may want to sign. It was begun by Colorado sex workers.

I am now convinced that this is the reason CdM appears to have been abandoned by the admin.  I can certainly understand why, having now read several articles on the subject.  Thank you, Anthony, for starting the discussion and the helpful background.

I recently read another article on the subject, this one from Vox: https://www.vox.com/culture/2018/4/13/17172762/fosta-sesta-backpage-230-internet-freedom

CdM certainly seems to be vulnerable.  Frankly, I'm surprised it hasn't been shut down completely.

I followed some of the links in the Vox article to other sites, including reddit, where discussion groups that carefully avoid violating FOSTA/SESTA are still active.  I have been speaking to Luke, a friend/companion of mine, and we were wondering if there might be enough interest here to start a new discussion forum on another platform?  Would that be something that the ladies and companions here would be interested in?  I would hate to see this community disappear.

Whether you choose to post publicly or send me a PM, I would love to hear your thoughts.
