As I've made my way into this business, the one question I don't yet have a good answer for is, "so how are you going to market yourself?"

Market segmentation and building materials that fit your target segment is not necessarily the challenge.  Whether you're going for the exclusive/high-end market or for a higher volume market with a lower price point, the most important thing is to make sure your images and text align with the needs and desires of that segment.

The part I continue to struggle with is, once the content is built, how do I get it out to those women that fit my desired client profile?  Things like CdM will help in the long run as it becomes more known among women, but in the short term there's got to be another way.

To those that have been at this for a bit, and who marketing themselves to similar markets, how do you do it?  For those with a web presence, how do people most often find your website?

I'm sure the answer's buried in the wisdom on Amanda's books, but I have yet to read those.

Thanks in advance,

-Miguel

I've found that advertising my web site www.luciferskiss.com in the town rag, er, city newspaper can elicit some attention.

I think number one is, be consistent. Establish a "personality" for yourself and try to stick to it. Everyone appeals to someone (my favourite motto) so be honest about who you are and the right clients will find you. Those who choose you for your (real) personality will always be the best. Figure out what you do well and run with it.

All too often I think Companions try to appeal to "majority audience" and wind up sounding very bland and characterless.

msSmunro, you make two excellent points here.

I think number one is, be consistent. Establish a "personality" for yourself and try to stick to it.

The female escorts I know with the highest number of repeat clientele are the ones who are consistent.  Their online persona is always positive, upbeat and playful.  Their blog and forum posts support each other well.  I have to think that this sort of purposeful marketing and attention to detail transfers itself into a consistent experience for their clients as well.

All too often I think Companions try to appeal to "majority audience" and wind up sounding very bland and characterless.

Interesting.  While I generally agree with the idea that you don't water down your message to suit the masses, I've also thought the timing wasn't quite right for that in the male escort marketing world.  The market is currently ill-defined at best.  Through stories from different escorts, we can start to correlate evidence of a general profile for the market, but it's still so fluid.

Maybe there's room for both.  I can see a certain category of women wanting to share an experience with someone that has a "real" persona.  Others may want a stereotype, which is maybe what you're getting at that some provider's sites end up like.

lucifer, Storm Astor posted a comment about including his ad in a similar online local classified.  Don't know what kind of a response he got out of it.

Some people I've talked with have suggested a more, let's say *direct*, approach.  In Vegas you have girls always working the bars at the nice hotels.  Well, some think that guys should be working the bars at nice restaurants, handing out cards and such.  It might work for some, but I'm not yet willing to put myself that far out there.

Oh yes, definitely. There is room for everyone and every style. Diversity is great! I suppose Im just saying...don't be afraid of being the real you. Too many are. As per a conversation I had with Holly, it is likely more important for men advertising to woman to appeal to their minds (vs woman advertising to men).

I wouldn't just say "likely more important", I'd say it's essential.

I wouldn't say essential.

The idea of hiring male escorts has always appealed to me (yet to do it but...). There will definitely be times when I'll be choosing my escort simply because he has a basic ad, no great character shining through, keeping it simple.

Other times I will be looking for something a little more meaningful which is where personality comes to play.

Hi

I have to admit it is still one of those very dark and closed corners to woman out there to admit they are looking at male companions or escorts.  They love the idea and toy with it for quite some time before they actually commit to getting in contact.  I have seen 2 Ladies regularly and I can say have been repeat clients and they are lovely gorgeous successful and in my eyes can attract any guy in a club, dinner ball, or restaurant.  I just came back from abroad lets say it was a 13 hour flight from London where I am based to spend the last week with one of them and it was one of the best weeks I have had in my life!!

What I am actually trying to say is that for the professional Lady out there hiring a professional male Escort or Companion its not about the quality hour or two!! they spend with you but in contrast they will be picking you on a more emotional scale and lets face it for woman sex and male company it is not about just sex but its about feelings and sharing intimate emotions with you as a male companion.  It might look on the surface as not much to you but believe you me its not!!

So be patient and when they pick you they will keep getting in touch just make sure they don't fall in Love...

Miguel,

A large part of Book #2 discusses figuring out your image and creating it. But...the marketing part will be different appealing to women rather than men. Yes, women want more intelligence, more emotion and I'd say -- more discretion as well. She's opening up a very personal part of her life to you and that requires different approaches than appealing to a male audience.

Finding the actual women's market? I think male escorts will be able to jump over a lot of the stigma female escorts face and try new marketing angles. I honestly don't think an interview in a national women's magazine is out of the question for the right male escort (or group -- like here). Who wants to bet how long it will take before a reality show forms around a male escort?

How many of you guys use web statistic counters on your sites? I use www.web-stat.com on my own, and it is the most powerful and user-friendly one I have found. I would be interested to know which ones, if any, you guys use.

I believe it is an essential part of marketing to know where your traffic comes from. You know what types of sites are sending you traffic, how long they stay, what pages they visit, etc.

I use Google Analytics to monitor my site, the Gwen & Smith site, and my blog. I find the entire Google account manager very easy to use. Since I have Gmail, Google Analytics, Google Documents, and Blogger...it's nice to have everything integrated in to one site.

I have been keeping a pretty close eye on my traffic since I started advertising.
From the statistics that Google Analytics provides I can monitor the success of recent paid advertising and blog/site bounce ratio. With this information I can better decide where to focus my efforts. I'm happy to report that this usually ends up meaning I just need to be myself and blog more. :p

Cheers,
-Smith

When did Eros get back into male escort ads? I know that they didn't have them for a couple years.

I'm another Google Analytics Fan. I have it installed on every site I manage and create accounts for the "site owner" to view their stats. Means we both have access.

Hmm, I was unaware that Eros didn't offer male escort ads in the past. I wonder how much business they actually get from M4F companions. I'm not sure if you noticed...but I am the ONLY male posting in that category. I thought about giving my ad the headline "It's getting kinda lonely in here..." ;)
