This gets mentioned in the media more and more, of late.  I'm wondering if any ladies on CdM are happy to share some stories?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_sex_tourism

I've never traveled to a country for the express purpose of buying sex, it's usually more opportunistic than that.  However, when I'm planning a trip to Thailand, I always assume that at some point, an opportunity - or several - will land in my lap  ;D

My experience is limited to two countries, Thailand and Bali.  In the latter there is no obvious sex for sale, unless you want to be taken out of town, to a 'ranch'....very seedy and bloody scary! All other encounters are procured in bars, or on the beach.  Walking across Kuta beach, I would be asked "Want to buy a sarong madam?  Sunglasses?  Boy??"

In Thailand it's far, far easier and this is my favourite country to buy sex in.  The boys who work the bars are usually straight (but they see gay guys), so women customers are a novelty and in hot, hot demand!  You will have a crowd of 10 or 15 guys around you in no time.  Rather pleasant  :)  Of course, the prices are ridiculously cheap too......for what I would pay one of the gentlemen on here for a weekend, I could keep a Thai companion for the month.  Maybe more.

So - who is willing to fess up!  /rolleye2

I've been curious about Thailand for a lot of reasons but not sure I'd be attracted to Thai men at all -- free or cheap or expensive.

Random thought...men have been writing about their sex tourism ad nauseum. Maybe it's time for a woman to make similar journeys and write about it. I've no doubt it can be done a lot better.

Lucifer,

The writing...and everything really. I've been reading quite a bit of the Western male view of Asia and it's almost enough to turn one off Western men for life. I'm optimistic that a Western female sex tourist would be less icky. I hope.

Curious you say About the 15 boys around you in no time Christina.....

All sounds good and cheap and might be fun, but how safe will you as a lady be in terms of really safe being or going with the boy and in terms of protection for your health how safe will you be. Not saying at all that the boys and men over there are not safe and clean its just a thought....?

Hi Storm

Yes, there were 15 boys around me in no time.  I like to frequent the 'muscle show' in Bangkok and there are usually only a couple of other women in the audience.  Come intermission time, the boys flood into the audience, looking for potential clients.  As most are straight the audience is mainly gay men, one becomes extremely popular, very quickly!

In terms of safety, I've NEVER had a problem in Thailand and have played a bit there.  The way things work, is that luxury hotels won't allow locals in unless they are registered guests.  So, one must hire a 2 or 3 star hotel for one's nocturnal pursuits.  Even these establishments, won't let locals in, unless they have recorded their names, plus, they hang onto the boys' id cards, while they are upstairs in the room with a guest.  You need to walk the boys out at the end of your fun, let security know everything is fine, then the boys get their id cards back.  I have found these boys are hyper careful with condoms; they keep checking to make sure it hasn't broken or torn and change them regularly.

The only time I have had a problem in Bankgok was in a massage place that had a huge sign on the door saying "Legitimate massage only - we offer no sexual services".  It was even included in the Lonely Planet guide as the place to go for non-sexual massage.  Unfortunately, my masseur had other ideas (which in itself wasn't a problem - I'm always open to a discussion about something!), but didn't include a condom as part of his thought process.  Thankfully, having eyes in the back of my head, I was able to stop him before anything untoward occurred.

In general about safety, I'd feel more comfortable procuring the services of a guy from a go-go bar in Thailand, than picking up a guy at a bar or club in Melbourne, or Sydney.

Christina,

Sounds like such an experience!

And you make the very important point that so many in mainstream society miss: sex workers are generally SO much more aware of safer sex than the average Joe/Jane walking down the street or drunk in a bar.

Absolutely, Amanda.  I think civilians forget that when you make your money out of your body, you are going to be hyper vigilante about keeping it 100% healthy, no different to a sports person who had to stay uninjured to compete.  Of course, the other thing is just an improved level of awareness amongst those in the industry.  I've heard that things were very different in Thailand 20 years ago, but the Thai government, alarmed at the increasing rate of HIV commenced a comprehensive sex educational program and from everything I have seen/heard, there isn't a prevalence of unsafe sex in the industry nowadays.

I am all for it!! I should get an outline together to submit to publishers.  Why couldn't I be the equivalent of Rick Steves?  Travel books are so helpful.   /joker

Isn't that sort of what you are doing anyway, Amanda?

Just spotted this article on Bali's sex tourism
"A new documentary about Bali's legendary beach gigolos, Cowboys in Paradise, led to a crackdown on the sex trade and the arrests of 28 "tanned and muscular men" this week."

Looks like a fascinating movie if nothing else!
